One of the things
that regulates how much people eat
is a phenomenon called “sensory
specific satiety,” which means
the more you eat of something, the
less desirable it becomes.
If you have a single
dish available, you can only eat
so much. For instance, if you serve
one kind of cookie you might just
eat one cookie, but if you are given
two kinds of cookies, you’ll
probably have at least one of each.
